From their crisp pin-striped zoot suits and fedora hats to their glossy patent-leather stacys, this South Texas Conjunto group are always ready for show time. Established in 2003, Los Badd Boyz del Valle consists of members, Lonnie Gonzales as their lead vocalist and bajo sexto, segunda voz and bass Carlos Gonzales, accordionist Manuel Rendon, and Nick Posada on drums. This talented group of musicians combine the staples of Conjunto with traditional sounds of the accordion and bajo sexto and a touch of polka and huapango.
For Los Badd Boyz, Conjunto music is a culture, it’s South Texas music, mainly. “Es la musica de la gente humilde, gente de la labor” (It’s the music of humble people, people who worked on the fields). Conjunto is our music, and it’s very alegre (happy) and good to dance to. Inspired by artists, such as Ruben Vela and Los Dos Gilbertos and Narcisco Martinez, their mission is to reignite the local flavor of traditional Conjunto music with a modern twist. Their dazzling style consist on many old favorites, including those from Jose Alfredo Jimenez and Vicente Fernandez, and the guys were pleased to work with longtime singer/songwriter Enrique “Flaco” Naranjo of Ruben Vela, fame on some original tunes.
Following an outpouring of response from Spanish-language radio and touring exposure, the Boyz jumped on board Sniper Records in 2004, a label owned and operated by Bobby Pulido, and released three of their albums titled “No Me Se Rajar” “Caray” and “Framed.” The group traveled around the United States and Mexico, making plenty of new fans along the way. They also made themselves available for private events such as quinceañeras, weddings and other special occasions.
Currently the Boyz are under the Latin World Records as to where they have released 2 albums “Eres Clicka” and “Sonar”. The Boyz are also working diligently on their next project expanding their musical horizons and working with other artists within the Tejano/Conjunto music genre. At this moment, they are preparing for the release of their 3rd album with Latin World titled “Cruel.” Single should be hitting the air-waves mid March! Their fame has blossomed throughout the years, which has kept them on tour visiting and performing all over the U.S. and Mexico, winning new fans over every time. In 2013, Los Badd Boyz del Valle were honored at the Tejano Music Awards when they won Conjunto Band of the Year. This is the first to come of many future awards and nominations.
“We’re working with groups we learned from and listened to on the radio, so it’s an honor.” Thus far, the Boyz have shared the stage with Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers, Los Palominos, Los Dos Gilbertos, La Mafia just to name a few. They look forward to the future and continue sharing their love for Tejano/Conjunto music with people all over the nation.
